COOKING INSTRUCTIONS FOR ASSORTED DRIED BEANS: Soaking beans overnight before cooking will cause beans to become "gassy" and smell bad sooner. It is suggested instead to blanch the beans as described below, rather than pre-soaking beans overnight before cooking. Pre-soaking has been the traditional way recommended on most bean packages to prepare beans for cooking -- but we get more satisfactory results by following these instructions.

Cook a large quantity at one time for convenience -- and freeze in daily portions along with cooked brown rice, which together provide a complement of amino acids for complete protein, low fat, and essential fiber. Just place a sheet of saran wrap over your hand, combine a scoop of beans and a scoop of brown rice (a one day portion), twist the wrap into a ball -- and put it in the freezer. Makes enough for more than a month for 1-2 birds.

• PUT SEVERAL CUPS (approx. 4 heaping cups, 2.5 lbs) IN ENOUGH WATER TO COVER BY MORE THAN 1" and bring to a boil
• START HEATING A SECOND LARGER POT OF WATER SIMULTANEOUSLY
• LET BEANS BOIL FOR 5-10 MINUTES to clean off any dirt or mold spores
• STRAIN OFF DIRTY WATER AND RINSE BEANS WITH HOT TAP WATER
• PUT RINSED BEANS BACK IN THE SECOND POT OF WATER THAT HAS BEEN HEATING AND LET BOIL FOR 30-40 MINUTES until the beans are soft enough to chew
• RINSE WITH COLD WATER to chill
• STORE IN FREEZER IN SMALL PACKETS with equal amounts of brown rice in convenient daily portions.
• TO SERVE, JUST LET DAILY PORTION THAW or run hot water over the frozen packet.

Beans and rice together provide a perfect complement of amino acids for complete protein. Serve with assorted vegetables and fruit in a separate "moist food" bowl over which is sprinkled 1/2 tsp. Avian Trio. Also add 5-8 drops of Organic Red Palm Oil.

In a separate "dry-food" bowl, serve one handful per day of our Organic Pellet Formula over which is sprinkled 1/4 tsp. Spriulina, topped off with a tablespoon of our Organic Granola Treat.
